New direction?

My search for a job in London has so far been fruitless, so to keep my spirits high, I'm going to take something else into my hands.

Since I've been here, I've gained weight because food is always readily available (when I was at school I would frequently forget to eat, not have time between classes etc.), so what I'm going to do is force myself to be healthy. Relatively simple, right?

Well, I live with two guys who are currently out to get a bucket of KFC to share amongst themselves. I am partial to sweets here and there as well, but I think I may have a way to trick myself into thinking that my healthy food is deliciously bad for myself.

I was skyping my family this morning, as I do every Saturday morning, and my sister was over at my parents' place. At one point, she just popped into the screen and suggested I try making a smoothie for after my workouts instead of eating a whole meal of potential crap.

This definitely appealed to me. Smoothies can be so yummy if you get the right combination of fruits. Eventually my mind started going, and I thought of something I had seen a while back on another blog; something about a green smoothie.

I decided to check it out, and when I did, I saw that they were using Kale in the smoothie to boost nutrients. Another ingredient that I saw (and hated) was peanut butter. This immediately made me rethink everything. Instead of following a pre-made recipe, I would be forced to make up my own. This is where Google became my best friend. I started googling everything, healthiest leafy greens, healthiest fruits, etc. and I think I may have found my holy grail of after gym energy. You'll hear about this later (probably Monday)

So, you may be wondering what my goal is. Essentially, I want to look and feel better. I want to have more energy, and I don't want to end up being just a statistic in 21st century's fight against fast food.

Last summer, one of my friends was selling clothes to fund a trip to Europe, so I went to check it out. She had set aside some clothes for me, and one of those things were a pair of jeans.

Now, these jeans are gorgeous, and they fit me for about a month last summer after I had been sick all winter. Unfortunately (depending on how you see it!), I got my appetite back, and those jeans haven't fit since. So what's my short term goal?

I want to fit into (and look good in!) those jeans. I know it's doable obviously, I was there last summer! Once I achieve that, I'm going to go down to Oxford Street, and I'm going to buy myself a nice new top to go with it.

It's all about motivation, and that's what I've been lacking in the past. For some reason, now I have it. Luckily, it's paired with a gym membership and nothing but time to spare.

Now, some of you may be asking why this is blog worthy. Well, it may or may not be to you, but one thing I know is that if this is going to succeed, more than just Matt and I need to know about it. If people keep asking me how it's going, I'm going to feel the heat to get up off the couch and to the gym every week day while people are at work!

I am open to hints, tips, and anything else that may help me along the way. This is the first time I have ever set out to lose weight, so I'm going to need all the support I can get!
